Bhutan Coca-Cola Bottling Grand Opening

Pasakha, Bhutan 7 February 2003

The Coca-Cola Company officially launches its first bottling operation in Pasakha, Bhutan today. Previously, the Bhutan market was served by Jalpaiguri plant in West Bengal, India. The plant is a joint-venture with the Tashi Group. Bhutan's carbonated beverage market is estimated at about 300,000 cases per year and Coca-Cola has about 40 percent of the market thus far without a local bottling operation. This new plant will produce 300 returnable glass bottles per minute. The plant cost is reported to be Rs 387 million (US$8.1 million).
